ROMANS UNWRAPPED 8

"THE GOSPEL OF GOD WHICH HE HAD PROMISED AFORE BY HIS PROPHETS IN THE HOLY SCRIPTURES"   Romans 1v2.

Paul was constantly accused of overturning time-honoured traditions, to preach something new. He was considered by his peers to be a traitor to the Jewish heritage.
"Not so" says Paul, this gospel is no new message, it is rooted in holy scriptures, inspired by the prophets of old, spanning thousands of years. This good news message I bring, far from overturning God's word, is the fulfilment of it. The gospel was promised by God, as far back as Eden and re-iterated all through the sacred writings.

On the very day of the fall of man, God pronounced "I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; HE shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel"    Genesis 3 v 15.
Paul states some 4000 years later. at the conclusion to this letter "The GOD OF PEACE shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly" Romans 16 v 20. The gospel is not new, it is as old as the world itself, and is bang up to date. As the hymn puts it "Tis old, yet , ever new".

Genesis 22   God provided the lamb of sacrifice; Exodus 12  The Passover lamb  Leviticus  The approach offerings God calling men back, having driven them out, and sealed the approaches by the flaming cherubs. The Psalms, The Prophets, no less than 45 times. are the sacred writings quoted in this letter.

What of  the new testament writers?

Romans 3 v 21   "The righteousness of God is WITNESSED BY THE LAW AND THE PROPHETS"
Acts 3 v 18   "Those things which God before showed by the mouth of all his prophets, that Christ should suffer, he hath so fulfilled"
Acts 3 v 24   "Yea, and all the prophets, from Samuel, and all that follow after him, as many as have spoken, have likewise foretold of these days."
Acts 10 v 43   "To Him give all the prophets witness, that, through His name, whosoever believeth in Him, shall receive remission of sins."
1 Corinthians 15 v 3-4   "Christ died for our sins ACCORDING TO THE SCRIPTURES, and He was buried, and rose again the third day, ACCORDING TO THE SCRIPTURES".
1 Peter 1 v 9 "..........the salvation of your souls, concerning which salvation the prophets enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come to you ...... searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ that was in them did signify, when He testified beforehand of the sufferings of Christ and the glory that should follow."

THE GOSPEL OF GOD is the fulfilment of a long-standing Divine promise. It was written and preserved in the narratives, the types, the poems, the prose, the prophecies, of the holy and inviolable scriptures.   It is with us NOW, it's future is glorious........DON'T MISS OUT!

Tomorrow we commence a study of the glorious Person, who is it's essence.
