THE GOD WHO IS SPEAKING
The question is do we listen? The bible speaks about having ears to hear and eyes to see but many of us are not using the faculties God has given us. For sure God is speaking, He is the one voice of truth amid many voices of deception.
He speaks in:
1. CREATION - Demonstrating His power and majesty.
2. COMMANDMENTS - Demonstrating His holiness and moral standards.
3. CONSCIENCE - Demonstrating His sense of righteousness and justice.
4. CHRIST - Demonstrating His grace and mercy towards fallen humanity.
1. God speaking in creation. Psalm Ch 19 " The heavens declare the glory of God and the firmament shows His handiwork." The Psalm goes on the make three clear statements - God is speaking in creation day and night, spanning all time.
God is speaking in creation and the message goes to the ends of the earth involving all living people.
God is speaking in creation in the most majestic of all His creation - "There is nothing hid from the heat thereof."
The Psalmist explains, no words are spoken, no voice is heard, but the silent testimony of creation to a majestic creator, rolls on every day, and reaches all people, and brings blessing to all. Whether we think of the creation MACROSCOPICALLY ( i.e. the huge planets occupying space in their incredible numbers), or whether we think of creation MICROSCOPICALLY (i.e. molecules and atoms so tiny we cannot see them without help, yet they contain vast information and beautiful order and complexity.
Only a God hating bigot would want to refuse the evidence of their own eyes and ears as every day the creation silently declares beyond reasonable doubt the existence of a majestic creator.
2. God speaking in commandments. He gave a moral code to the nation of Israel at Sinai, through Moses, and ratified it in the presence of angels. This moral code, known commonly as the ten commandments, was a reflection of the character of God, and of His demands upon His creatures. No-one else has come up with a moral code like it. All other religious codes either copy it or are variation of it.
So astounding is this law of God given to Israel, that Jesus was able to sum it up in two simple demands.
a) "Love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and energy."
b) "Love your neighbour as yourself."
Can you imagine a world that followed this code? Think about it.....................yet no man has ever kept it.
3. God speaking in conscience. God's sense of righteousness and of a fair and just society. This is discussed in Romans Ch.2. Who came up with the laws that govern the world today, and the standards that we all accept? Who made these laws? - some kind of global think tank who gathered together and decided this is the way the world should be governed? No, one of the greatest proofs of a just creator is the common inward knowledge in all of us, in-planted within us, and through which God speaks to us, we have a seeming miraculous agreement worldwide as to what is right and what is wrong.
4. God is speaking to us in Christ. Because no-one could reach God;s standard, Christ came to do the will of God. Because a perfect creator demanded no less than moral perfection from His creatures, Christ had to die to pay for the sins (shortcomings) of the world; and this He did to perfection. Hebrews Ch1 says "He made purification for sin"; Hebrews Ch 2 calls it "so great salvation". The world didn't need reforming, but saving. God calls this salvation "so great" because of the greatness of the issue involved, the problem of human sin and also because of the greatness of the person through whom this salvation was accomplished - no less than God's son - heir of all things, creator of all things, sustainer of all things, purifier of all things, equal with God yet truly man, and now majestic Lord of all things, seated on the right hand of power.
GOD IS SPEAKING, He is speaking for the last time, in the final and full revelation of Himself ever, He is speaking to mankind in grace and mercy and love, and He demands a response from His creatures. He demands a response from you.
In the same book that outlines this great salvation there are stern warnings. The die is cast, God is speaking for the last time.
1. Hebrews Ch. 2 DO NOT NEGLECT THIS
2. Hebrews Ch 4 DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEART
3. Hebrews Ch 10 DO NOT SIN AGAINST GOD GIVEN LIGHT
4. Hebrews Ch 10 DO NOT DESPISE THE WORD OF GRACE
5. Hebrews Ch 12 DO NOT REFUSE HIM WHO SPEAKS FROM HEAVEN
If we neglect, or despise, or treat lightly, or refuse, such a salvation as this, we will not escape.
" HE THAT HATH EARS TO HEAR LET HIM HEAR !
